Death Valley Mining Machinery at Dusk

Death Valley Mining Machinery at Dusk

I played around with a flashlight during a long exposure of this bulldozer somewhere in the mountains of Death Valley National Park. Most folks think of “light painting” as either shining a light on the landscape, or “drawing” lines in the air with the light pointed towards the camera, but for this image I wanted to do something different. I was also testing out the sunstars of the new Nikon 20mm f/1.8 G at the time, and as you can see they are rather impressive looking. (This image was created at around f/11-16, on a Nikon D750, as a single exposure of 30 seconds or longer.)

Was this shot with one of those old H Nikons?

    • Hi Tyler,

Nope, this image was shot on the new Nikon 20mm f/1.8 G! I absolutely love its sunstars, they’re very reminiscent of the old Nikon AI-S and older lenses, you were very justified in asking about H lenses!
